Terms of Use

Short, and written to be read. By installing AutoTripMemo you agree to what follows.

The short version.

AutoTripMemo keeps a record of your driving. It is a tool for keeping that record, not an accountant and not a tax adviser. The numbers it produces are measurements, and measurements have error. Check them against your odometer before you file anything.

What the app does

AutoTripMemo detects car trips automatically and records their time, route, distance and addresses on your iPhone. You classify each trip, and the app can produce a mileage report as a PDF that you export wherever you choose.

It is provided as-is, for your own record-keeping.

Full access, and what you pay for

AutoTripMemo is free to download and free to use for 30 days from your first recorded trip. During that time nothing is held back.

After 30 days the app keeps working: it still detects and records your drives, still shows them, still lets you classify them, and still lets you export your own raw data. What requires a purchase from that point is the mileage report — the finished PDF document the app builds for your accountant.

Your driving history is never taken away from you. Whether or not you buy, the app goes on recording, everything you have recorded stays visible, and you can export your own trips as a data file at any time.

The purchase

What “permanently” means. The purchase unlocks this version of AutoTripMemo for as long as it runs on your device, with no time limit and no further charge. It covers updates to this version. If a future major version is ever released as a separate product, it may be sold separately — but nothing you have already bought stops working because of it.

The price may change for new buyers. A change never affects a purchase already made.

Accuracy, and what you are responsible for

Distances are measured by your iPhone's location hardware. That measurement is affected by things neither we nor Apple control: satellite visibility, tunnels, parking garages, tall buildings, radio interference, battery-saving behaviour in iOS, and whether your phone is with you at all.

So, plainly:

Not tax advice

AutoTripMemo shows a deductible estimate calculated from the IRS standard mileage rate. That figure is arithmetic — miles multiplied by a rate — and nothing more. It is not tax advice, it does not account for your circumstances, and a deduction reduces taxable income rather than tax owed. We are not accountants or tax advisers. For advice about your taxes, speak to someone who is.

Mileage rates are entered into the app and can be edited by you. It is your responsibility to confirm that the rate applied to a period is the correct one.

Your data

Everything the app records stays on your iPhone. There is no server of ours holding a copy, which also means there is no backup we can restore for you. If you lose or reset your phone without a backup, the driving history goes with it. How the Privacy Policy describes this is exactly how it works.

No warranty, and limits on liability

AutoTripMemo is provided without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including any implied warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. We do not warrant that it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that it will capture every trip.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, or for lost profits, lost deductions, penalties, or lost data, arising from your use of the app. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law.

Apple's terms also apply

The app is distributed through the App Store, so Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement applies alongside this page. Where the two conflict on a point Apple's agreement covers, Apple's agreement governs. Apple is not a party to these terms and has no obligation to provide support for the app.

Changes

These terms may be updated as the app changes. Material changes will be reflected here with a new date, and described in the app's release notes.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules.
